Letter From Pamela Bryant - Summer Camp Personnel Director

Thank you for considering Medeba as a summer ministry possibility for you! Much of Medeba's success is largely due to God's grace at work in the lives of its staff. We are looking for committed young men and women, who can remain focused on the job at hand, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ, through lifestyle and example. Our summer program will stretch your personal limits and challenge you to share your faith in unique settings!
Our vision
We desire to be leaders in the use of Christian adventure learning for evangelism and discipleship.

We have carefully prepared this application package for you and ask that you read all the information thoroughly and begin to pray that God would lead you in the process.
Applicants are prayerfully chosen on the basis of:

1. The content of their application
2. For new Volunteers to Medeba, the results of either a Friend or Pastor/Christian leader reference.
3. Personal interview
4. Police Clearance Check

In order to protect the children under our care, all our staff must provide us with a Police Clearance Check. You can obtain this check, by visiting your local Police/OPP station. Clearance Checks must be completed and returned to us, before your final acceptance to Medeba as a staff member can take place. We will ask you to do this after you have been tentatively hired. A current clearance check is required every year. There usually is no charge for this if you are volunteering. We will reimburse you, if there is a fee. Please submit your receipt to our office.

Please use the Checklist for Applying to be on Summer Staff which will walk you through the process.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. I may be reached at 1-800-461-6523, if I am not in you may leave voice mail at ext. 222, or
e-mail me at <pamela@medeba.com>.

Hope to hear from you soon!

In His Love and Service,
Pamela Bryant
Summer Personnel Director

Statement of Faith

Staff and their Relationship with God

Staff are to be known for their love of God, his Church and fellow man, holding a servant attitude of putting others first. They are expected to reflect the moral standards of the Word of God, conduct themselves with integrity and wisdom as well as, daily spend time with God in prayer and study.

All staff must affirm the following Statement of Faith:

We believe in:

-The plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments as the very Word of God.
-The triune God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit
-The deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His substitutionary atonement for sin, His bodily resurrection, and His personal, visible return to earth to reign in righteousness and glory.
-The person of the Holy Spirit and His work of conviction, regeneration, and sanctification; who indwells every believer.
-The necessity of the new birth, in salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone and the importance of a life fully committed to the will of God in Christ.

Medeba's Values

1. HONOUR GOD

Pleasing God in all that is done.

Luke 10:27a "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind"

2. DEVELOP PEOPLE

Seeking to grow in all areas of life and encouraging others to do the same.

Luke 10:27b "Love your neighbour as yourself"

3. PURSUE EXCELLENCE

Striving to do our best.

1Cor 9:24 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win."

Expectations for Summer Staff - "Targets"

Targets While Serving at Medeba
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2

At Medeba, it is important to us that each person who serves in our summer camp program comes with the right heart attitude. Rather than have a long list of "do's and don'ts", we have put together a list of targets that we hope each person will strive to aim for. We understand that mistakes can be made, but what we are looking at is the heart of each person as they strive to set personal goals and to be effective in our summer ministry. If you are unable to consider any of the following as personal targets, then we ask that you reconsider your application for summer ministry here at Medeba.

Christian Lifestyle Targets:
Honouring God
Our hope is that each person serving at Medeba has a personal target of how they want to pursue holiness and grow in a deeper relationship with Christ. Ways that this can be accomplished are by regularly reading God's word, actively participating in worship and serving others. Luke 10:27a, Philippians 1:9-11

Honouring Others
Our hope is that each person would have a genuine love and desire to serve others while serving at Medeba. Ephesians 5:3-5

Fellowship:
Our target is for each person to have fellowship with one another through prayer or corporate worship. We have allocated times for this to happen. Our expectation is that your will make an effort to join us for prayer during allocated times as well as participate in Sunday morning worship either at Medeba or a local community church. Romans 15:5

Serving:
Our target is for each person to consider others better than themselves and consider the importance and commitment to serving one another. Philippians 2:1-3, Romans 12:9-12

Relationships:
Our target for staff relationships are that they are God honouring and encouraging. To help achieve this we hope that you will pray for each other, encouraging each other to strive for purity and holiness in action and deed. One way to help accomplish this is that we ask staff not to be alone with another staff member of the opposite gender unless in the view of others. Ephesians 5:21, Philippians 2:14-16

Our target for staff camper relationships are that they are God honouring, encouraging, and providing fun yet safe instruction. Staff members are not to be alone with a camper unless in the view of others. I Timothy 4:12, Proverbs 20:11

Media: Our target is to not watch or listen to any form of media that glorifies sin. We also want to respect others by not causing them to stumble by providing opportunities to do so. Our expectation is that music or movies do not glorify sin and are suitable for family viewing or listening. Media that is published under a Christian "label" is acceptable. Our senior staff is always available to answer any questions about any media that you have questions about. Proverbs 4:23, Philippians 4:8-9

Abuse: Our target is to ensure our campers and staff are treated respectfully and not discouraged or harmed by physical, emotional or verbal abuse. Ephesians 4:29, Philippians 2:3

Clothing: Our target is to not cause others to stumble while they seek to honour and serve God while at Medeba. While we celebrate our creation in Christ, we strive for modesty in our presentation. To achieve this we require a presentation that is not seductive in nature. Examples of a non seductive presentation is clothing that does not have low neck lines, undergarments are not visible above waist line or under shirts, midriffs are not visible even when arms are raised and clothing that is not skin tight. Bathing attire are one piece and modest. They are to be worn on the way to and from and at designated swimming areas only. Romans 14:13, Philippians 4:8-9

Medeba Community Targets:
Alcohol or Tobacco: Medeba is a smoke and alcohol free facility. For the sake of our community our staff is not permitted to consume alcohol or smoke tobacco while serving as summer staff missionaries.
Accommodations: Staff is expected to keep their accommodations clean and tidy as they are sharing rooms with others who are serving.

Chewing Gum: Delicious to chew, not so fun to clean up! Please do not chew gum while on camp property.

Electronic Devices: Our goal is to give the camper the best experience possible while being a guest in Medeba's serene environment. Our goal is also for our staff to give their attention and attend the needs of our campers in the best possible way. Keeping this in mind, we ask that t.v.'s, vcr's, dvd players, video gaming equipment not be brought to Medeba. Personal lap tops/computers, music players with headphones and cell phones are permitted but are only to be used during personal time off. Please do not bring movies from home.

Curfew: Our target is for staff to be in their accommodations by 11 p.m. each night unless permission is given by our Summer Camp or Summer Personnel Directors.

FYI
Valuables: Medeba is not responsible for valuables kept in your room. We recommend that staff deposit cash in the tuck shop. Passports, traveler's cheques, etc, can be locked away in our main office.

Phone Calls: We ask that staff use the payphones in the mud-room of the dining hall to make personal calls. Staff may receive brief calls during meal times at 705-754-2444 x 231. Please do not have people use our toll free number to contact you personally.

Email: A computer lab is set up in the staff lounge for you to access your personal web-based email accounts. Our expectation is that websites that glorify sin are not to be visited. The computer lab is to be used only during your personal time off.

Visitors: If staff would like to have visitors stay at Medeba for a meal or overnight, please check with the Office Manager regarding the fee and the availability of space as we do not always have extra space.

Vehicles: Medeba provides a staff parking area for your personal vehicles. To ensure personal security, please keep your vehicle locked and for your own personal protection, please refrain from lending your vehicles to other staff members

Note: Violation of these lifestyle guidelines will result in the dismissal or discipline of a summer staff member, at the discretion of the Summer Camp Director and/or the Summer Personnel Director.
