Letter From Pamela - Summer Camp Personnel Director

Thank you for considering Medeba as a summer ministry possibility for you! Much of Medeba's success is largely due to God's grace at work in the lives of its staff. We are looking for committed young men and women, who can remain focused on the job at hand, spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ, through lifestyle and example. Our summer program will stretch your personal limits and challenge you to share your faith in unique settings!
Our vision
We desire to be leaders in the use of Christian adventure learning for evangelism and discipleship.

We have carefully prepared this application package for you and ask that you read all the information thoroughly and begin to pray that God would lead you in the process.
Applicants are prayerfully chosen on the basis of:

1. The content of their application
2. The results of references from ; 1) a Friend, 2) a Pastor or Christian Leader and 3) an Employer or Teacher.
3. Personal interview
4. Police Clearance Check

In order to protect the children under our care, all our staff must provide us with a Police Clearance Check. You can obtain this check, by visiting your local Police/OPP station. Clearance Checks must be completed and returned to us, before your final acceptance to Medeba as a staff member can take place. We will ask you to do this after you have been tentatively hired. A current clearance check is required every year. This expense is the responsibility of the employee and may take several weeks to complete.

Please use the Checklist for Applying to be on Summer Staff which will walk you through the process.

Our Honorarium and Project Share packages provide our staff with financial support while they serve at Medeba over the summer. All the summer staff positions that are available are listed on the "Staff Position Summary" page. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. I may be reached at 1-800-461-6523, if I am not in you may leave voice mail at ext. 222, or

Statement of Faith

Staff and their Relationship with God

Staff are to be known for their love of God, his Church and fellow man, holding a servant attitude of putting others first. They are expected to reflect the moral standards of the Word of God, conduct themselves with integrity and wisdom as well as, daily spend time with God in prayer and study.

All staff must affirm the following Statement of Faith:

We believe in:

-The plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments as the very Word of God.
-The triune God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit
-The deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His substitutionary atonement for sin, His bodily resurrection, and His personal, visible return to earth to reign in righteousness and glory.
-The person of the Holy Spirit and His work of conviction, regeneration, and sanctification; who indwells every believer.
-The necessity of the new birth, in salvation by faith in Jesus Christ alone and the importance of a life fully committed to the will of God in Christ.

Expectations for Summer Staff - Targets &Boundaries

Targets & Boundaries While Serving at Medeba
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2

At Medeba, it is important to us that each person who serves in our summer camp program comes with the right heart attitude. Rather than have a long list of "do's and don'ts", we have put together a list of targets that we hope each person will strive to aim for. We understand that mistakes can be made, but what we are looking at is the heart of each person as they strive to set personal goals and to be effective in our summer ministry. If you are unable to consider any of the following as personal targets, then we ask that you reconsider your application for summer ministry here at Medeba.

Christian Lifestyle Targets:
Honouring God
Our hope is that each person serving at Medeba has a personal target of how they want to pursue holiness and grow in a deeper relationship with Christ in their lives. Ways that this can be accomplished are by regularly reading God's word, actively participating in worship and serving others. Luke 10:27a, Philippians 1:9-11

Honouring Others
Our hope is that you have a genuine love and desire to serve others. Ephesians 5:3-5

Fellowship:

Abuse: Others and ourselves are to be treated respectfully and not discouraged or harmed by physical, emotional or verbal abuse. Ephesians 4:29, Philippians 2:3

Clothing: While we celebrate our creation in Christ, we strive for modesty in our presentation. To achieve this we strive for a presentation that does not cause others to stumble and is not seductive in nature. Romans 14:13, Philippians 4:8-9

Our goal is also for our staff to give their attention and attend the needs of our campers in the best possible way. Personal lap tops/computers, music players with headphones and cell phones are permitted but are only to be used during personal time off.

Quiet Times: Our desire is to create an atmosphere of "winding down" at the end of each day. Our target is to have general quiet time from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am the next morning.

Curfew:
Our target is for staff to be in their accommodations and heading to bed by 11 p.m. each night including Saturday night, unless permission is given by our Summer Camp or Summer Personnel Directors.

To help us hit the media target, music and movie media produced uder a Christian lable are permited, and a boundary is set against secular music and movies. Various secular media may be permitted after premission from the Summer Camp or Summer and /or Personnell Director(s) Proverbs 4:23, Philippians 4:8-9

Honourarium and Project Share

At Medeba we view summer staff positions as summer mission opportunities. It is important to give prayerful consideration while applying for a position in summer ministry at Medeba. We have outlined and valued each ministry position and have listed what Medeba can contribute towards this value as an honourarium. The remainder amount can be raised through Medeba's Project Share Program. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to partner with family, friends and your church and have them prayerfully and financially support you while serving the Lord in this life changing mission opportunity.

Part 1: Medeba's Honourarium Program 2008

Purpose:
At Medeba we understand that serving in ministry is often a financial sacrifice. We want you to understand that we cannot "pay" you what you are worth in terms of your time and skill. Keeping this in mind, we have listed below ways in which we strive to try to help you financially while serving at Medeba.

How do I qualify?
To be eligible for this program, you must:
1. Be officially accepted as a Medeba Staff-Missionary member and have all paperwork completed.
2. Be present for the entire summer including all of Pre-Camp Training week.
(June 21- Aug 23, 2008)
3. Be accepted to the Project Share Program (see Part 2)

How do I receive my honourarium?
We budget to provide a weekly honourarium for each Staff-Missionary. Your eligible honourarium is split into two portions: The first portion is the approximately 50% of the total amount and you will receive it on a biweekly basis throughout the summer for the weeks served. The second portion approximately 50% will only be given to you upon finishing out the signed contract for the position you may be hired for.A T4 will be issued stating your earnings and a taxable benefit of $75/week room and board. Positions that are exempt from this taxable benefit are: Cabin leader, Cabin Leader Assistant and Health Care Personnel.

Additions:
We strive to honour summer staff missionaries with additional funding depending upon their area of skill and yearly return to Medeba. They are as follows:

Leadership Development Program Grad - $40/week bonus
Leader in Training Program Grad - $20/week bonus
Past Summer Staff Experience - $20/week bonus for each year you have worked in the same position.
Medeba Belayers Level - $100/summer - does not apply to LIT or LDP grad.
NLS or Bronze Cross - $250 bonus, if you lifeguard throughout the summer camp program in addition to your position. Does not apply to positions where NLS or Bronze Cross is required.
Crafts Coordinator - $250/summer to oversee the planning and coordinating of the instructional or activity crafts program.
Archery/Riflery Coordinator - $250/summer to oversee the planning and coordinating of the archery and riflery program.

Clothing Benefits:
We desire to honour returning staff for their ongoing yearly commitment by providing the following:

First year and every year after: Staff t-shirt
Second year: Staff hoodie
Third year: Staff polar fleece jacket
Fourth year: Staff coat
Fifth year: Gear of choice (Value of $300)

Other Benefits:
Include: Skills training, Room and Board, use of Laundry facilities, opportunities to share in other's lives, Staff discounts, if you or your children are attending Medeba Programs as participants. Note: A taxable benefit of $75.00/week will be included in your T4 slip for room and board except for Cabin Leaders, Assistant Cabin Leaders and Summer Camp Health Care Personnel. Again, all earnings are subject to employment deductions.

Part 2: Medeba's Project Share Program 2008

Purpose:
To provide Medeba Summer Staff-Missionary's an opportunity to raise other supplemental compensation while they serve on summer staff. It is personal fundraising that you initiate through your friends and your church with the assistance of Medeba.

How do I qualify?
To be eligible for this program, you must:
1. Be officially accepted as a Medeba Staff-Missionary member, for the entire summer and have all paperwork completed.
2. Be officially accepted into the Medeba Honourarium Program

How does it work?
On top of the amount Medeba offers with the Honourarium Program, all staff can raise an additional amount of money up to a set amount, as outlined in the Summary of Positions section. You are eligible to receive only the actual donations that have been contributed on your behalf. You will receive the project share portion of your support on your last honourarium check. Project Share donations are subject to regular employment deductions in accordance with Canadian income tax regulations. Donors must specify whom the support should be directed to and be received by our office by Aug 15th.

How to make this work?
Medeba provides you with flyers and introduction letters explaining how Project Share works. Your responsibility is to mail or hand out these to your friends, acquaintances, and church. Ideally, it is best if you explain it to people in person. Don't be afraid to ask. People like it when you ask them, if done in an orderly and timely fashion. When asking people from your church it is always best to inform your pastor about what you are doing first. Don't wait until the last minute.
The earlier you begin the more effective you will be. If you would like some help in this area, just give us a call. Once someone commits to support you, they fill in the form and send in their cheque(s) to the office. We respond to them with an income tax receipt, and ask you to write them a personal thank you note and keep them informed about your ministry, as often as possible.

Other Information
Medeba reserves the right to include donor names on our mail list so we can keep them informed about our ministry year round. Medeba cannot issue income tax receipts for our Project Share donations given by your parents.

Terms and Conditions of Contracts
An Employment/Win-Win Agreement (contract) will be sent to you once you have been hired and is binding contract between you and Medeba. We hire our staff expecting them to finish their entire term of ministry as outlined in the contract, so we can plan effectively for the summer.
