Staff & Safety

Staff at Medeba
Staffing for our school groups consists of select individuals from around the world who are a part of our 10-Month Leadership Development Program (LDP). The Leadership Program provides the participants with personal challenge, growth, and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in adventure programming and activities. Each of them is certified in Standard First Aid and CPR, as well as Wilderness First Aid. As part of the screening process, each participant is required to provide a valid Police Check from their respective country.

Safety at Medeba
Safety is a priority at Medeba and we pride ourselves in providing an exciting adventure experience, while maintaining the safest possible risk management strategies. Our goal is for each student to push themselves, challenge perceived limitations, and return home having learned valuable life lessons.

HOSPITAL
The Haliburton Hospital is located 10 minutes from Medeba.

RISK MANAGEMENT
Medeba has written Risk Management Standards for each of our activity areas. One of Medeba's main principles is "Challenge by Choice." This means that if a student decides that he or she does not want to participate in any of our activities, while we will still encourage participation, the student will not be required to do so by our staff.

ACCT, and OCA STANDARDS
The current governing body for challenge courses is the ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology). Medeba has regular inspections of our challenge courses thereby abiding by the ACCT standards. We are also a member of the OCA (Ontario Camping Association) which has its own standards to which Medeba complies.

WATER SAFETY
Medeba's water is tested every two weeks for E. coli, Total Coliforms, and HPC (Heterotrophic Plate Count) for the safety of our guests and staff.

WEST NILE VIRUS
Medeba is unaware of any indivdual contracting West Nile while at Medeba. Some basic precautions that can be followed and are recommended are to wear light colored clothing, long sleeves and pants, a bug jacket or head net, and bug repellent. Medeba requests that students bring the spray repellent as this decreases the potential of getting the DEET product on our ropes and harnessess through direct hand contact. For more information please visit the Health Canada 's West Nile Page.

ALLERGIES
Medeba is a nut aware facility and does not serve any nuts or nut products. Our camp store does not sell any products containing nuts, and we also sell some products made in the 'nut-free' Nestle plant. However, some products in the store have the warning 'manufactured in a facility that uses peanuts' directly on the wrapper.
