Medeba's New Washrooms

For many years now Medeba has known that we need new washroom facilities. In September, 2001 the Board of Directors approved a project that we are calling our "Jubilee Project". Jubilee means the celebration of 50 years. In celebration of Medeba's Jubilee anniversary in 2002 we are planning to build a new washroom facility and winterize all twelve of our new summer cabins. This is an aggressive undertaking but we are undertaking it with great enthusiasm. The completion date for the new washrooms is the summer of 2002.

The washrooms will be much larger and will be heated with radiant floor heating. That means no more cold feet coming out of the shower! The entire facility will be constructed according to commercial standards.

	Summer, 2001 This is the existing boys washroom. Do you think we need new washrooms?
	November 8, 2001 Last Friday the footings were poured and today the walls are being poured. It has rained both days. This view looks South East toward the lodge.
	November 8, 2001 Cement is poured into a styrofoam mold which also serves as insulation. This view looks North East toward the pond.
	November 13, 2001 Sand is being brought in from our sand pit and compacted to prepare for the granular "A" material.
	November 13, 2001 The granular "A" material is being dumped into the foundation to be compacted.
	November 16, 2001 The first wall is erected.
	November 16, 2001 More walls are erected.
	November 21, 2001 The walls and overhangs are almost ready for roof trusses.
	November 22, 2001 The new washrooms are being heated through radiant floor heating. This shed is being built to store the wood furnace and a large supply of wood.
	November 22, 2001 The furnace heats the water and then the water is pumped through special tubing in the floor to provide a nice, even heat. The furnace will also supply the hot water for the building.
	November 26, 2001 The crane arrived at 6:30 a.m. to install the trusses and left shortly before 11:00 a.m. It rained all the previous night but stopped during the day.
	November 26, 2001 This is a view from the pulley ride at the pond. Here the crane is putting on the final trusses.
	December 3, 2001 It has been raining lots during this past week, which has hindered our progress. Here Ken, Steve and Andrew are putting the strapping on the roof. This picture offers a view of the south entry way which features a large overhang.
	December 6, 2001 The rain has finally stopped. Here Steve and Ken are putting the steel on the roof on the north side.
	December 12, 2001 For the past three days the crew to drill a new well has been hard at work. Today they struck water at a depth of 220'. The well is providing a strong 8 gallon per minute flow of fresh, clean water. Indeed this is a blessing!
	February 6, 2002 We are now working on the inside of the washrooms. The building is now being heated by our outdoor wood furnace which allows us to work in the ground in the middle of the winter. All the drainage pipes have been laid.
	February 13, 2002 The drain pipes have now been covered with sand and a layer of Styrofoam and wire mesh. Here Steve and Andrew are laying the radiant floor pipe and tying it to the wire mesh.
	March 1, 2002 Over the past couple of weeks we have scheduled the concrete floor to be poured three times but it had to be canceled because of poor weather. Two days it was too warm and one day it was too cold. Finally, today, the weather was just right.
	March 1, 2002 The concrete had to be transported from the truck by wheel barrel. Thirty cubit yards of concrete were poured to form the floor.
	March 1, 2002 The concrete is now smoothed out through a screeding process. One of the manifolds can been seen in the middle of this picture. They control the flow of water throughout the building.
	March 15, 2002 Now it is time to focus on the inside walls. This is a picture taken from the southwest corner (in the laundry room) looking east.
	March 15, 2002 This picture is taken from the southeast corner (in the utility room) looking west. The manifolds for the radiant heat flooring can be seen in the foreground. The drains for the seven new girl's showers can be seen behind the manifolds.
	April 5, 2002 Over the past few weeks the plumbing and electrical has been roughed in. Here is a picture of Steve working in the girl's washroom where the sinks will be.
	April 17, 2002 Things are progressing well these days. Here Andrew is finishing installing the seven showers in the girls' washroom. Separate change areas will be built in front of each shower unit.
	April 25, 2002 The installing of drywall boards was completed today. This is a view of the hallway outside the boys' washroom entrance.
	May 3, 2002 Steve is working on the electrical box.
	May 3, 2002 The drywalling is now complete. Here Andrew is starting the process of painting. This is the hall entrance into the girls' washroom.
	May 13, 2002 Two large tile beds are currently being excavated to service the washrooms. This one is located on the east side between the lodge and the pond.
	May 13, 2002 A light green ceramic tile is now being laid on the floor and a textured white tile on the walls. This view is in front of the boys' showers. Eventually seven tons of ceramic tile will be laid in the washrooms.
	May 27, 2002 The ceramic tile continues to be laid. The floor has been completed and now they are working on the walls. This is a view of the girls' shower room.
	May 30, 2002 The new washrooms require two large tile beds. This one is between the lodge and the pond. There will be over 1500 linear feet of pipe laid in the ground.
	June 6, 2002 The ceramic tile is now completed and the lights are in the process of being installed. This is a view of the entrance to the girls' washroom.
	June 6, 2002 This is a view of the east tile bed between the lodge and the pond. We are working hard to have the washrooms ready to be used by the summer time.
	June 13, 2002 We are working hard to have the washrooms ready for the first session of summer camp. Here Steve and Ken are installing the partitions in the boys' washroom.
	June 20, 2002 Everyone is working hard to finish the washrooms before summer camp begins. The stainless steel sinks and counters are now in.
	June 30, 2002 The new washrooms are officially usable!! Much has been done in the past few days including finishing the partitions, installing hardware and mirrors, finishing the septic system and lots of cleaning. We are thankful to God for this blessing!
