Medeba's New Dining Hall

New Dining Hall

Below you will find some pictures of the New Dining Hall project. It is almost twice the size of the old Dining Hall with a higher ceiling, two storage rooms, and even a maple hardwood floor. The old Dining Hall was only able to seat a maximum of 120 people (packed in). The new one will seat a maximum of 170 people (with lots of extra room). The project was made possible through donations made in memory of Jim Cooper, one of Medeba's founding Board members.

	November 2, 2000 The first stage was to expand the floor 20' to the east. The old dining hall was still being used at this time.
	November 21, 2000 The old dining hall is being torn down piece by piece by the LDP.
	November 22, 2000 Snow comes early as interior is completely removed.
	November 23, 2000 Old walls are removed and new walls are built.
	November 29, 2000 Roof trusses being placed by a large crane. The trusses are over 50 feet long (tip to tip).
	December 2, 2000 Strapping the roof.
	December 4, 2000 Putting on the steel roof. We closed it in just in time. A big snow storm is in the forecast for the evening.
	December 5, 2000 The snow storm came.
	December 23, 2000 The deck roof was completed today. The new deck roof is about the same width as the old dining hall. The doors just arrived today and will be installed after Christmas.
	December 23, 2000 All of the drywall and insulation are completed. The ceiling is completed and the walls are just finished being painted. The hardwood maple floor and the trim work will be installed at the end of January.
	January 7, 2001 The first group to use the new dining hall is the Medeba summer staff and LIT reunion. It was nice and spacious and cozy warm!
	January 22, 2001 Over the last few weeks the crew has been busy putting on pine trim, wainscoting and doors. Today we start on the maple hardwood flooring.
	January 24, 2001 Pictured here are Steve Archibald and Andrew Bain laying the maple hardwood flooring.
	January 24, 2001 At this point the flooring is half way completed. This view is looking toward the kitchen.
	February 1, 2001 The floor is now finished. Here Ken and Steve are putting on the third coat of varnish. Click on the picture to get a good look at the floor.
	February 2, 2001 The dining hall floor is now finished and ready for a large group to arrive tonight.
	April 18, 2001 Now that the snow has gone here Ken is putting on the pine siding. It's going to look great.
	May 9, 2001 Jason and Krissie begin to stain the pine siding.
	May 10, 2001 The outside is pretty much finished.
