Medeba's New Summer Cabins

See the pictures below to follow the progress of the development of our new cabins.

In 1996 Medeba began to replace all of our cabins. The old ones served us well for years but they were far too small. In the spring of 2001 we built the last 4 summer cabins bringing our total to 12. Each cabin sleeps up to 10 people. In the summer this means each cabins sleeps up to 8 campers plus 2 cabin leaders. All summer campers will now be staying in one of our new cabins.

In September, 2001 the Board of Directors approved a project that we are calling our "Jubilee Project". Jubilee means the celebration of 50 years. In celebration of Medeba's Jubilee anniversary in 2002 we are planning to winterize all the new cabins in 2 stages.

In October 2001 we began the first stage of winterizing half of the cabins so that they can be used by schools and groups throughout the year. The winterizing process includes installing insulation, vapor barrier and pine on the walls. Finally , flooring and a propane "wood looking" stove will be used to provide a warm, cozy atmosphere.

The other 6 cabins will be winterized during the second stage which, Lord willing, will be completed in the fall of 2002. Once completed, our 12 cabins will accommodate up to 120 people year-round, bringing our maximum year-round accommodation to 150.

Remember that the funding of all building projects at Medeba, such as the new cabins, is done through the generous donations of friends of Medeba. If you believe in the ministry of Medeba we invite you to make a donation.

A Example of New Cabin

Here is a picture of a finished cabin.
This one was built in 1999.
Each one has eight beds for campers
and two for cabin leaders.

An Example of the Inside a New Cabin

Each bunk is made of pine with a
thick foam mattress. Eventually we plan to winterize and finish the inside of each cabin
but for now they made an excellent cabin
that campers and staff really enjoy.

The Medeba board of directors recently made the decision to winterize six of the new cabins to be available for this winter. The final six cabins will be winterized in the Fall of 2002. We are now in the process of insulating the walls and installing pine boards on the walls. They look amazing!

October 5, 2001

We chose propane wood stoves as our heating source for the cabins. They provide an excellent heat source and really provide a cozy atmosphere.
