Who would have thought that it would have taken 2 years from the date of
my acceptance to finally make it to Medeba’s LDP program?! After originally
applying late in the summer of 1998, I wsa accepted to the program for September
of 1999. So, trained as a high school teacher, I accepted a job to teach
in London England instead, where I stayed for 2 years. IT allowed me opprotunities
to not only broaden my professional experience, but also to explore Europe
on holidays. Most of my life has been spent working with children and teenagers
both in and out of church life. I enjoy teaching inner-city students, as
much as I enjoy organizing youth ministries, retreats and services. I would
love to see bridges built between Christian teenagers and their peers, or
younger students with those who are less advantaged in their own schools
and communities. At last, I’ve arrived at the end of the winding road to
Medeba, only to realize that it’s just the beginning of a much more significant
journey I’ve chosen to travel over the next 10 months. There are promises
made to us: the step of faith will always land on solid ground; we never
walk alone, the journey isn’t always an easy one, but it will always lead
you home...’m happy to have found a place I can call home for the next 10
months.

Andrea
J. Bishop
I had just completed my first semester of seminary when God called my husband,
Brian, and I to attend LDP. Being from North Carolina, it was certainly
not the cold Canadian winter that drew us here! We felt, however, that LDP
would offer significant training and experience that would move us toward
our vision for directing a Christian outdoor center. We hope to gain employment
at such a camp in the North Carolina area following LDP. Thus far, I have
most enjoyed rock climbing, Not only is this a sport of strategy and strength,
but it also cultivates bonding among participants.

God never ceases to amaze me! The fact that He brought Bean all the way
to North Carolina to lay out brochures just for me is mind-boggling. As
soon as I read about LDP, I was ready to come! I feel that God has led my
wife, Andrea, and I to work in the field of youth camping. Coming to Medeba
is a way for me to gain invaluable knowledge and first-hand experience that
I can use as I go out into this field. In my spare time I enjoy competitive
sports and relaxing with Andrea. I most look forward to braving the Canadian
winter (it’ll be pretty chilly for a North Carolina boy!) and the new things
I will experience because of it.

Some might say “Full Time Ministry” with a puzzled look on their face. The
thoughts that come to mind are long hours, little time off, and not a lot
of pay. But this is my passion. I come from a family with a rich history
of camp ministry, and I think it’s in my blood. I have counseled for numerous
years in my home province of Saskatchewan. Before LDP, I was co-directing
at a camp, and my summer directing was an affirmation for me in the camping
ministry. I heard about LDP from an LDP alumni, and after looking it up
on the Net, it seemed to be the place for me. I believe it will help me
to develop not only my outdoor skills, and leadership skills, but also a
place to develop in spiritual leadership for the purpose of ministry. I
hope to one day create my own out-tripping program for inner city youth,
and LDP is one step for me in putting this dream together.

Lorne
Foisy
I was slightly intimidated to come to LDP because of my age. I am slowly
realizing that being the youngest isn’t all that bad (Lorne is 19). I currently
reside in the village of Port Ryerse. One reason that I decided to come
to Medeba was so I could be introduced to the vast range of activities they
offer. I believe this course will provide a foundation for pursuing the
outdoors as a ministry. In my spare time I like to be doing something or
nothing.

Paul
Jagt
My name is Paul, I am 26 years old, and originally from Bradford. I am a
pretty hard core outdoor enthusiast but my previous job required me to work
6-7 days a week. So in February, I quit my job, got rid of most of my belongings
and back-packed to north of Sudbury. Long story short, through my travels,
visiting with family, helping a friend at his camp, and ultimately hiking
the wilderness section of the Ganaraska Trail, I came to know Christ and
desired to live for Him. My joy for the outdoors, desire to lead, and faith
in Christ make LDP at Medeba the best opportunity for me. I hope this program
will allow me to get involved with outdoor ministry anywhere God leads me.
In my spare time I enjoy backpacking, hiking, canoeing, Bible studies, reading,
and now from LDP, rock climbing. Back in May of this year when I first came
to know my Savior, the first Bible passage I came upon that spoke to me
and still does is Eph. 2:8-10.

I actually thought I had my life sorted out and knew exactly where I was
going, but I guess that is when God just loves to throw in a little curve.
After living and teaching London, England for the last 2 years, I decided
to move back home to Canada and start life again. The task was a bit daunting,
since I’d been away so long and I was moving to a new city. That was when
the curve came and a friend of mine said “Why don’t you come to Medeba with
me.” The prospect of climbing, kayaking, and working with kids really excited
me, but I had just made up my mind to go home. So I took my time, prayed
about it, asked friends, and finally I phoned. I asked Michael if there
were any spots available. When he said there was one spot for a girl, I
knew it was mine. So I sent my application the next day and haven’t looked
back since. Being here is loads of fun and hard work, and each day I learn
more about myself and God.

Benjamin
Wolf
Ich heisse Benjamin Wolf. I am the German guy here on LDP. I am 26 years
old, just finished my high school, 1 year in the German army, 1 year of
Bible school in BC, and my social work studies. After working 6 months
in New Brunswick in a special care home and then being a cabin leader
for the summer at Medeba, I finally ended up in LDP. Even if my summer
seemed a bit chaotic at the beginning, I am very happy that god brought
me here to Canada. I can learn and grow in my relationship to God, my
personality, my leadership skills, my social skills… and I can get lots
of experience in working with people through outdoor activities. I look
forward to lots of different experiences during the next months.
